What this tool does
This tool converts YouTube SubViewer (.sbv) captions to SubRip (.srt) for video editors, players and TVs. It handles missing or extra blank lines and any common character set, and saves UTF-8. Up to 50 files are converted at once in your browser.
How to convert SBV to SRT
- Select Choose files and pick one or more .sbv files, or drag them onto the green area. You can also select Paste text and paste the captions.
- Select Convert.
- Select Download next to a file, or Download all (ZIP) when you converted several files.
Options explained
- Line endings (default: Windows, CRLF). Works in every player; pick LF only if another program asks for it.
- Add UTF-8 BOM (off by default). Turn it on only if an older Windows program shows broken characters.
Example
This SBV file:
0:00:01.000,0:00:03.500
Is anyone still on the dock?
0:00:04.200,0:00:06.900
Just me.
And the rain.
becomes this SRT file:
1
00:00:01,000 --> 00:00:03,500
Is anyone still on the dock?
2
00:00:04,200 --> 00:00:06,900
Just me.
And the rain.
Format notes and limits
- Reads SBV files in any common character set; saves UTF-8 SRT.
- Missing or extra blank lines between captions and Windows or Mac line endings are handled while reading.

Questions
What is an SBV file?
SBV is a simple caption format used by YouTube. Each caption has a line with the start and end time separated by a comma, such as 0:00:01.000,0:00:03.500, followed by the text and a blank line.
Why convert SBV to SRT?
Most video editors, desktop players and social sites read SRT but not SBV. Converting keeps the same text and times in a format they accept.
Are the times changed?
No. Times are kept to the millisecond. Only the way they are written changes, from 0:00:01.000 to 00:00:01,000, and each caption gets a number.
Can I convert SRT back to SBV?
Yes. Use the subtitle converter and set Convert to SBV (YouTube).
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Your files are processed in your browser and are not uploaded to our servers.
